Early Screenings For Aquaman Have Been So Popular They've Added A Ton More

It's no secret that the DC live-action universe has had a bumpy road in theaters. While Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman made a ton of money, it remains the shared universe's only critical success. Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League didn't fare nearly as well. As such, DC is looking for a win, and it looks like that it might be coming with James Wan's Aquaman.

Anticipation for Aquaman has been growing since footage started being released, with the underwater adventure is just weeks away. Amazon Prime members are given the perk of access to early screenings, and now it looks like even more are coming. Because Amazon is adding 100 additional theaters for Aquaman screenings.

This news comes to us from The Wrap, and shows how steadily excitement has been growing for Aquaman. James Wan's upcoming DC debut is one of the big releases of the Holiday Season, and early reception has been positive. DC fans are hungry for another success story, so moviegoers who subscribe to Amazon Prime are ready to check out Aquaman before anyone else.

The early showings of Aquaman will take place December 15th, one week before the blockbuster's wide release. That's extra days of of dodging spoilers, so it makes sense that comic book fans will want to jump on that early screening, if possible. And with 100 more venues now in play, it seems even more accessible.

Part of the reason for all the Aquaman hype is the involvement of director James Wan. Wan came into his own as a director working on horror projects, and putting a terrifying and unique spin on the genre in the process. His creatures are totally unique, and its this vision that will likely translate into the underwater sequences of Aquaman. Add in his success on Furious 7 proved Wan could handle a massive budget, and an action franchise like Aquaman.

And James Wan had his work cut out for him, as Aquaman provided a plethora of technical challenges. Because so much of the film is set underwater, filming had to be done in a unique way. Actors needed to seem weightless, and used wire work to mime swimming and floating. And while he didn't overthink how characters would talk underwater, filming the DC movie doesn't sound like the typical moviemaking experience.

The visual affects team of Aquaman also had a huge job ahead of them. Because in addition to creating action sequences and the beautiful world of Atlantis, work had to be done on all the underwater scenes. The light had to be perfect, and actors' hair and clothes had to look weightless underwater. It's unprecedented for both the genre and the industry itself, and all eyes are on if/how James Wan will pull it all off.

Man Dies At Disney World's Blizzard Beach After Heart Attack

Walt Disney World is supposed to be the most magical place on Earth. Unfortunately, for one recent family, the trip to the theme park turned out quite sad. It's now being reported that a 70-year-old died earlier this year of a heart attack while enjoying a wave pool at Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park.

The unnamed man is reported to have had a pre-existing heart condition prior to the heart attack. His death was listed on a quarterly report that Walt Disney World releases regarding injuries sustained in the park. The incident happened on June 10th at Melt Away Bay, a one-acre wave pool that is part of Blizzard Beach, a Walt Disney World attraction themed as a former ski resort that has melted into a water park.

The description of Melt Away Bay on the Walt Disney World website refers to the waves in the pool as "short, bobbing waves" which certainly doesn't sound too strenuous, but it also refers to the pool as an "invigorating swim" though there are no official restrictions regarding who can use the wave pool as far as the standard age or height restrictions that can be found on other Walt Disney World attractions.

In addition to the heart attack, Walt Disney World's quarterly injury report (via WESH) also mentions that a woman went into labor after going on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom in April. The ride vehicles used for the safari can be quite bumpy, which likely resulted in the induced labor. A man also lost consciousness during the Mission: Space attraction at EPCOT. That ride provides significant g-forces and actually has a second version of the attraction for guests who want to experience a lower stress version of the ride. He appears to have suffered no ill effects.

A death at Walt Disney World is certainly tragic. A 70-year-old man was likely there as part of a larger family vacation with loved ones who were all enjoying the water park on a warm summer day. Disney World is supposed to be a place where you make happy memories with your friends and family, but that's not how it worked out in this case.

Over the years there have been more deaths than you might think at Walt Disney World, though most of them fall into a similar pattern to this one here. Somebody with a weak heart goes on a ride like a roller coaster and ends up having a heart attack. In most of these cases, the death is ultimately ruled due to natural causes. Back in 2007, a man collapsed and eventually died at the same water park. He also had an existing heart condition.

Friday The 13th Is Getting Another Reboot, And LeBron James Is Involved

The 2018-2019 NBA season has just kicked off and beyond the near-foregone conclusion that the Golden State Warriors will three-peat, one of the biggest stories is LeBron James beginning the next chapter of his career as a Los Angeles Laker. But LeBron isn't just coming to LA to play; he's going full Hollywood. LeBron James' production company is now involved in a reboot of Friday the 13th.

Vertigo Entertainment and LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment are in talks to create a reboot of the iconic horror franchise, which dates back to 1980's Friday the 13th and has twelve installments to date, including Freddy vs. Jason. This potential reboot is in the very early stages but meetings are out to potential writers and directors for the project, according to Deadline.

This news comes in the wake of a legal decision about the rights to the horror franchise. Victor Miller, the writer of the 1980 film, regained the U.S. rights to Friday the 13th under copyright reclamation laws that allow authors to reclaim their work 35 years after selling it for a low price. With that legal battle now won, the rights issues that have been holding up another Friday the 13th are seemingly less of an impediment to the franchise continuing in the future.

Following his victory, Victor Miller took the reboot to LeBron's SpringHill Entertainment and Vertigo. SpringHill Entertainment has an existing production deal with Warner Bros. studio.

This isn't the first time a reboot has been attempted. Last year a reboot of Jason Voorhees was supposed to take place at Paramount from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes. The studio nixed the project, after Rings failed at the box office, conflating one film's failure with a lack of viability in all horror reboots.

Obviously that mindset is no longer prevalent in Hollywood given the current success that horror in general is finding at the box office and especially horror reboots of iconic properties, as evidenced by last year's IT and the just-released Halloween. The time seems right for Friday the 13th to get a Halloween-style refresh.

The Michael Myers reboot-quel enjoyed a record opening at the box office last weekend and the best debut ever for a film in the franchise, proving that these seminal horror figures have a place in the modern movie marketplace.

The last film in the franchise was 2009's Friday the 13th, which itself was a reboot of the property, yet it failed to deliver critically and didn't break $100 million in its entire worldwide run. But we're ten years later now, which seems to be the rough time period before many reboots, and being the 13th entry in the franchise has got to be a good sign that this potential reboot will bring Jason back to prominence and let him make his mark in this new horror age.

This isn't the only reboot of a name property that LeBron James is involved in. The all-star and SpringHill Entertainment are also involved in a remake of House Party as well as the long-awaited Space Jam 2. Whether LeBron James can also reboot the Lakers back to relevancy remains to be seen.
