The Justice League Snyder Cut Petition Has Raised A Ton Of Money To Fly A Banner Over Comic-Con

With the successful releases of Aquaman and Shazam!, the DCEU has risen from the ashes of disappointment left by Justice League. And some fans feel the big superhero team-up film failed because Zack Snyder left the project during production due to a personal tragedy and wasnt able to fulfill his vision as Joss Whedon took over.

A passionate following have been demanding the release of the Snyder Cut for over a year and have now raised over $20,000 to have a massive presence at this years San Diego Comic-Con in just a month.

A Go Fund Me page from the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement has rallied the money from fans to create a massive advertising assault to fellow fans and Warner Brothers over their unyielding desire for the release of the full and complete Zack Synder Cut of Justice League. The campaign looks like it will have a prominent presence at this years Comic-Con with the movements plans.

At first, the fans raised over $2000 in one day to the fund for an airborne banner with the words WB #ReleaseTheSnyderCut OF JUSTICE LEAGUE to fly over Comic-Con for the two hours Warner Bros. would present at Hall H during the convention. However, it was recently announced that the studio will not present at the convention with the release of the new Wonder Woman 1984 poster.

The crowdfund campaign then also raised money for a billboard in San Diego near the convention to hang during the convention within a few weeks. Funds were also raised to secure a half-page color advertisement in Hollywood Reporters Comic-Con special issue and along an entire bus stop in the city.

With each level of the Snyder Cut campaign, supporters have also asked for double the price of these advertisement fees to donate to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. So at the current numbers, about $10,000 is going to the movements Comic-Con presence, and the other half to AFSPs cause. If Warner Bros. makes an announcement to release it before Comic-Con, they say they will defer all the funds raised to AFSP.

During the convention, there will also apparently be boots on the ground at and around the convention center donning signs and handing out educational flyers about the Synder Cut. These die hards had previously raised funds for a banner with the #ReleaseTheSynderCut hashtag to be flown over Warner Bros studios, which Snyder apparently took notice of.

One question worth asking is does this Snyder Cut actually exist? He has been vocal about his plans for the franchise before the DCEU changed up, but is there actually an assembly the studio is just holding from release? If there isnt, these fans may be picketing for a long-lost vision.

Jason Momoa has spoken out about the Snyder Cut in the past, talking about how much he wants to see it as well. Will these cries from fans lead to the release of the Snyder Cut and will Warner Bros lack of presence at this years Comic-Con impact their plans? Well have to wait and see.

Why Dwayne Johnson Wanted To Make Rampage Into A Movie

Video game movies are not an uncommon sight in Hollywood these days. Only last month we saw the release of Tomb Raider and the potential start of a new franchise. That said, Rampage feels somewhat different, and much of that likely stems from Dwayne Johnson's connection to the property. In fact, during a recent interview at the film's premiere, the wrestler-turned-actor opened up about his own relationship with the original Rampage game from his childhood and explained:

I was a very big fan of the video game growing up, I started playing it in Hawaii when I was 13 years old in a pool hall --- in a really dingy shithole pool hall I had no business being in, especially during school hours --- and I would drop quarters in the Rampage video game all the time.

Dwayne Johnson has seldom shied away from talking about his upbringing in Hawaii and how that shaped his life. Now it looks like Rampage played a more prominent role in those years than any of us ever realized. The muscle-bound action hero would apparently spend quite a bit of time playing the game in a pool hall (even during school hours), and that forged a connection with the property. Now, as one of the biggest stars in the world, he has the chance to bring the franchise to life on the big screen.

That's a heartwarming story, but it doesn't necessarily dive into the logistics of making a story like Rampage adequately come to life on the big screen. After all, Dwayne Johnson was in Doom, so he clearly knows what can happen when a video game movie doesn't work. On that note, Johnson continued in his discussion with Variety at the Rampage premiere and explained how Rampage's simplicity allowed the film to bring in a creative team that could construct a proper backstory for the monster action. Johnson said:

Rampage was one of those video games where one would think years later, it's not the most sought-after intellectual property to remake because the storyline isn't that complicated, so we brought in some great writers and everybody kind of galvanized together and created a backstory.

Ultimately, that might actually be the key to making this whole thing work. Rampage does not have a particularly dense story to adapt, so there's ample room to explore the property while also maintaining a sense of fidelity to what came before it. Compare this to a video game movie like Assassin's Creed (which largely failed to condense the massive mythology of the franchise into a single film), and it arguably becomes pretty clear that modern games with deeper stories have trouble making the transition to the silver screen.

Last month, it was reported that due to scheduling issues, Will Smith wouldnt reprise Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot, in The Suicide Squad. Days later, word came in that Idris Elba had been tapped to replace Smith as the assassin, but apparently now plans have changed. Elba is still attached to the sequel, but he wont be playing Deadshot.

According to Variety, Deadshot has been removed from The Suicide Squad by director/writer James Gunn and the rest of the creative team, and Idris Elba will instead play a brand new character. It wasnt revealed who Elba will now be portraying, but evidently it was decided in recent weeks that it was the right move for him to vacate the Deadshot role, as those involved didnt want it to feel as if they were disrespecting Will Smith, who first brought the character to life on the big screen in 2016s Suicide Squad. While it remains to be seen if Smith will ever play Deadshot again, the door is at least now open for him to return at some point rather than being prevented from doing so because Elba took on the Deadshot reins.

So now Deadshot is off the table for The Suicide Squad, although if theres the possibility of Will Smith playing the character again, then naturally Floyd Lawton is still alive in the DC Extended Universe, and is likely either still custody at Belle Reve or managed to escape imprisonment and resume his mercenary duties. In any case, Idris Elba is too big of a Hollywood star for The Suicide Squad team to let go of, so it shouldnt take long for them to find someone else for him to play. Bronze Tiger is a reasonable choice, since like Deadshot, he was one of the original members of the first Task Force X that debuted in the late 1980s. But hes just one of numerous potential candidates on the table, with plenty of others, like Blockbuster and Multiplex, just waiting to be adapted for the big screen.

While The Suicide Squad had previously been described as a total reboot, it will maintain some connectivity with the last Suicide Squad movie through some familiar faces. Margot Robbie is expected to play Harley Quinn again following her return to the DCEU in Birds of Prey, Jai Courtney confirmed that hell reprise Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis is reportedly back as Amanda Waller. There are conflicting reports about whether or not Joel Kinnaman will play Rick Flag again.

However, despite a few Suicide Squad characters returning, The Suicide Squad has been conceived as a relaunch that will feature a mostly new cast. No plot details have been revealed yet, but it will maintain the same premise of incarcerated supervillains going on dangerous, covert black ops missions for the U.S. government in exchange for reduced sentences and other forms of leniency.
